- John Donald Bittinger, 83, of Grantsville, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at his residence. Born June 27, 1933, in Meyersdale, Pa., he was the son of the late John Thomas and Bessie Ellen (Bittinger) Bittinger. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Leora Althea (Wilt) Bittinger in 1991 and his second wife, Esther D. (Patton) Bittinger, in 1998. Mr. Bittinger was a heavy equipment operator for the Garrett County Roads Department and an oiler for Morgan Strip Mines, Grantsville. He is survived by two sons, Ronald Bittinger and wife, Suzanne, Lawrenceville, Va., Roger Bittinger and wife, Roxanne, Accident; one daughter, Donna Durst, Jennings; his nephew and niece, whom he raised, Jimmy Spiker, Friendsville, and Sharon Durst, Grantsville; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, Grantsville, on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016. Funeral service will be conducted in the Cherry Glade Mennonite Church, Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Barry Maust officiating. Interment will be in Cherry Glade Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Bittinger, Dennis Bittinger, Gary Durst, Garrett Merrill, Josh Bittinger and Greg Blocher. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Cherry Glade Mennonite Church.
