- John L. Durst, 63, of 55 Broadway, Frostburg, a member of the Durst Company, died yesterday at Sacred Heart Hospital where he was admitted April 16. Mr. Durst, a member of the Durst Company, along with his brother Joseph R. Durst, operated the Durst Furniture Store, 2 East Main Street, and the Durst Funeral Home, 57 Frost Avenue. Born in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Jonas J. and Sally Layman Durst. His first wife, Gwendolyn (Davis) Durst, preceded him in death. He was a member of the Tri-State Funeral Directors Association, BPO Elks Lodge 476, where he was a past Exalted Ruler, Farrady Post 27 American Legion, Old Rail Post 6205 VFW, Mt. Savage, and was a veteran of World War II. Also surviving are his widow, Iona (Coleman) Durst; two stepdaughters, Mrs. James Myers, Frostburg, and Mrs. Ronald LaRue, Clinton; a stepson, Russell Keister, Jr., Bethesda; three sisters, Mrs. Marion Gunter, Cumberland; Mrs. Eleanor Thomas, and Mrs. Anna Shuman, both of Frostburg, and a brother, Joseph R. Durst, Frostburg. The body is at the Durst Funeral Home where friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. Elks Lodge 470 will hold a memorial service at the funeral home tomorrow at 8 p.m. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
