- LONACONING - Gilbert Sylvester Crowe, 87, of Lonaconing, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008 in Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore. Born April 28, 1920, in Klondike, he was the son of the late Edward and Emma C. (Wilhelm) Crowe. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lois Josephine Resh; a brother, Ellis Crowe; and a sister, Mary Engle. Mr. Crowe was a steelworker for Armco Steel, Baltimore, who retired in 1982. He was of the Catholic faith and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by three brothers, Edward Crowe, Lonaconing, Glenn and Ronald Crowe, both of Ohio; five sisters, Ida Morgan and Mabel Horn, both of Baltimore, Faye Garlitz and Betty Garlitz, both of Ohio and Emma Walker, Lonaconing; a number of nieces and nephews including, Mark Resh, Baltimore, whom he raised, as well as Tom Resh, Barbara Ristway and Bill Resh. Friends will be received at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Ann's Mission, Avilton, with Father Jim Hannon officiating.
