    • ECKHART - Walter L. Engle Jr., 77, of Eckhart, died suddenly Sunday, July 22, 2007 at the WMHS-Braddock Campus. Born April 12, 1930 in Frostburg, he was the son of the late Walter Lester Engle Sr. and Alice (Wright) Engle. Walter was also preceded in death by his former wife, Mary Engle. Mr. Engle was a proud American. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal and the Bronze Star. He was the proprietor of several businesses both in the Hancock and Frostburg Area, and he is fondly remembered for his production of the original "Engle's Bologna." At the time of his death, he owned and operated the Long Stretch Market on Route 40. Mr. Engle was an avid baseball fan and faithfully followed his beloved New York Yankees since he was a young man. Walt was Methodist by faith. He was a member of the Moose Lodge 348, Elks Lodge 470 and Farrady Post 24 American Legion, all of Frostburg. He is survived by three loving children, Daniel L. Engle and wife Mary, Poolesville, Roxanne Sanford and husband David, Frostburg and Leslie Weaver, Long Stretch; a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, Heather Mason and husband Derek, Salisbury, Jillian Fridley and husband Matthew, Matinsburg, W.Va., Kenneth Engle and wife Meghan, McSherrystown, Pa,, Jacqueline Davis and husband Dustin, Cumberland, Nicholas Engle, Baltimore, Kenny Weaver, Justin Weaver and Jonathan Sanford; a loving PapPap to three great grandchildren whom he adored, Hayden Mason, Avah Mason and Emily Fridley; and two loving and devoted sisters, Betty C. Cook, Flintstone, and twin Esther Connor and husband Joseph, Frostburg; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends, some of them as life long friends. Mr. Engle was cremated according to his wishes. A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday at noon with the Rev. Karen Tamorraria officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to services. Inurnment of the cremains will be in the Frostburg Memorial Park.
