- FROSTBURG — Eleanor Louise (Jenkins) Kenney, 93, of Frostburg Heights died on January 13, 2015, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. She was born on Sept. 25, 1921 in Frostburg to Allen C. Jenkins and Mary Elizabeth (Shuckart) Jenkins. She was a 1939 graduate of Beall High. She was the Editor of the Beall High Chime and the Mountaineer Yearbook. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Homer “Stoney” Jackson, and J. Paul Kenney. Eleanor was the last surviving member of her family. She was preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Dr. Ben Jenkins; and sisters, Martha Springston, Jane Jones, and Betty Morton. Eleanor was secretary to the General at the Aberdeen Proving Ground in Aberdeen, and worked at the Murphys store in Frostburg. Eleanor was a kind, loving and intelligent person. She and her husband, Paul, cared for twenty foster children. She wanted to give these children a second chance in life. Her hobbies included reading. crossword puzzles, watching and feeding the birds, singing in her beautiful voice, playing the piano, violin, playing cards, taking bus trips, canning vegetables from Paul’s garden. She sewed clothing for her own family as well as baby doll clothing. Eleanor was a member of the Homemakers Club and the Frostburg United Methodist Church. Eleanor enjoyed visits from the pastors there and attended weekly Bible Study at the Frostburg Heights. Surviving are her daughter, Judy (Jackson) Stott and husband Wayne, Cumberland, and her son, Bill Jackson and wife Diana, Frostburg. Also, son, John Paul Kenney and wife Judy, Hagerstown; daughters, Beth Broome and husband the Rev. Rich, Martinsburg, W.Va., Susan Haslacker, Frostburg, and Mary Lou Weaver and husband Terry, Mountain Lake Park, and Coleen Kenney, considered as daughter and sister to the family, and her husband Dick, also a nephew. The couple provided loving care and support, especially in the last years. Eleanor had nine grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews who truly loved coming to Aunt Eleanor’s house. She will be greatly missed by many. Friends and relatives will be received at Sowers Funeral Home, P.A., 60 W. Main Street, Frostburg on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015 from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by the funeral at 3 p.m. with Pastor Jen Webber officiating. Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the St. Joseph American Indian School or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Cumberland Times-News, January 14, 2015
