She began her career as woman's editor of the Cumberland (MD)Daily News and worked there from 1924-1942. Since then she spent 30yrs as a feature writer, reporter and columnist for the Somerset Daily American. She was also the author of 4 books of poetry. A member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Somerset, PA she was also a member of the Nat'l League of American Pen Women, Somerset Business & Professional Women's Club, the Garden Club, Somerset Welfare League, the Crippled Children's Society and was a past member of the board of directors of the Somerset County Cancer Society. Born in Wellersburg, she was daughter of the late Joachim C. & Ellen Jane (Martin) Marten (sic). She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles B. Getty formerly of Grantsville, infant twin sons, a grandson and 2 sisters. Surviving are two daughters: Mrs E.H. Reppert of Bridgeport, WV and Mrs. E.E.Criswell of Clarksburg, WV; 5 grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs Flora Winebrenner of Mt.Savage, MD. Funeral service was conducted Monday morning at Richard E. Hauger Funeral Home in Somerset, with Rev.George Bowersox, officiating.
