GRANTSVILLE, MD., April 29 - Mrs. Annie Dorsey Getty, widow of the late John O. Getty, died very suddenly at her home early Monday morning. She has been a semi-invalid for four years, suffering from heart attacks and partial paralysis. Her death came as a shock to her family and friends as she seemed to be much improved in health the last few weeks.
Mrs. Getty was a daughter of the late Patrick and Sarah Dorsey, well known and highly respected residents of Garrett County for many years. She was born in Johnstown, Pa., 65 years ago last November and moved with her parents when a child to a farm near Avilton, Md. On May 17, 1894, she married John O. Getty and came to Grantsville where she had since resided.
She is survived by two daughters - Mrs. James K. Smart, of Philadelphia, and Mrs. Joseph F. Fahey, County health nurse, and two sons, Frank W. Getty, a teacher in the Grantsville High School, and William D. Getty, assistant cashier of the First State Bank of Grantsville. Mr. Getty died May 1, 1925, and a son died in infancy. She also leaves the following brothers and sisters: Dr. F. P. Dorsey, Hoedington, Neb.; James P. Dorsey, Everett, Wash.; Dr. J. H. Dorsey and Daniel W. Dorsey, of this place; Sister Luca (Holy Cross) Notre Dame, Ind.; and Misses Margaret and Mary Dorsey of the Casselman Hotel, Grantsville. Mrs. Getty left many friends who will miss her kindly greeting and hospitality in her home and her generous disposition among her neighbors. She bore her afflictions bravely regardless of her many serious illnesses. She was a faithful member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church.
A low requiem mass was solemnized at 9 o'clock, Wednesday morning, by Rev. Father Charles, the pastor, and Very Rev. Father Brady of Meyersdale. A large assembly of relatives and friends attended the obsequies. The many floral tributes were expressive of the love and sympathy of her friends. The pall-bearers were H. P. Miller, U. O. Blocher, V. L. Blocher, J. J. Bender, G. J. Gnagey and W. E. Stanton. She was laid to rest in the family lot beside her husband and son, in the Grantsville Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. James K. Smart and children of Philadelphia, and the Misses Callaghan and brother, from Dennison, O., arrived here Tuesday to attend the funeral of Mrs. Getty.
