GRANTSVILLE — Kenneth Raymond “Jingles” Durst, 71, of Grantsville, died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, Cumberland. Born Aug. 14, 1940, in Grantsville, he was the son of the late Raymond and Cordella (Garlitz) Durst. He was preceded in death by his brother, Willis E. Durst; his sister-in-law, Mildred Durst; his brother-in-law, Everett Oester; and his nephew-in-law, Tom Reese. Mr. Durst was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ. He was a real estate agent and appraiser, operating Hill and Vale Realty. He was a past president of the Garrett County Board of Realtors, member of the Maryland Association of Realtors, was a real estate broker for Maryland and Pennsylvania, a Certified Residential Appraiser for Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, and was also past president and treasurer of the Grantsville Rotary Club. Prior to his real estate career, Ken was employed for many years as a brick mason. Surviving are one sister, Helen G. Oester, Grantsville; one nephew, Wayne Oester and wife, Barb, Meyersdale, Pa.; two nieces, Sherri Reese, Grantsville, Kelly Durst, Frostburg; one great-niece, Wendi Wilson; two great-nephews, T.J. Reese and Derrick Oester; and three great-great-nephews, Owen and Aaron Reese and Brandon Tichnell. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be conducted in Trinity United Church of Christ on Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Wanda Lester officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in Trinity Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Goodwill Mennonite Home.
