- CUMBERLAND — Homer F. Schadt, 76, died peacefully, surrounded by family on Dec. 16, 2010, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va. Born Nov. 20, 1934, he was the son of the late Louis L. Schadt and Ida L. (Clark) Schadt. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Louis E. Schadt Sr. A graduate of the Fort Hill High School, class of 1953, he attended Frostburg State University and studied at the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore. He served in the U.S. Army as a clerk typist and chaplain’s assistant. He was also a member of an award-winning vocal quartet in Special Services. Homer was a dedicated family man and the owner of Schadt Plumbing and Heating for more than 35 years, more recently partnering with his sons, Jonathan and Nathaniel, in Schadt Plumbing and Heating LLC. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served as organist, choir director and pianist for the Sunday school for more than 40 years. He was also a member of the Board of Trustees and “plumber in residence.” Homer’s avid love of gardening helped to beautify the church grounds, as well as his gardens at home. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary E. (Porter) Schadt; and sons, Jonathan E. Schadt and wife Martha (Swayne) Schadt, Timothy L. Schadt and wife Amy Nicholson, and Nathaniel J. Schadt and partner Cindy Dugan. He is survived by his grandchildren, S. Kathleen Schadt, Sarah K. Schadt, Christopher D. Schadt, Carmen R. Schadt and partner David Wagner, Emily N. Schadt; and great-grandson, Jacob T. Wagner. He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn L. Burnham; sister-in-law, Lois J. Schadt; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, at Trinity Lutheran Church, preceding an 11 a.m. memorial service. Pastor Eric Ruble will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Organ Fund or the donor’s favorite charity. The family extends their deepest gratitude to all those who dedicated themselves to Homer’s health and well being over the years. Cumberland Times-News, December 19, 2010
