- CRESAPTOWN — David William “Bill” McKenzie, 59, Cresaptown, passed away on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center. Born Nov. 24, 1952, in Cumberland, he was the son of Sarah E. (Dickey) McKenzie Shaffer and the late William G. McKenzie. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law and very close friend, Charles Alan “Al” Evans. David was a Department Manager for Gee Bee Stores and also a Union Rep. for MCEA. He was the Fire Chief and EMT Tech for the Cresaptown Fire Department. David was a member of the Cresaptown Eagles and a Catholic by faith. He loved animals, especially dogs. In addition to his mother, surviving are his sister, Joan McKenzie Evans, of Cresaptown; nieces, Ann M. Abe and husband Fred, of Rawlings, and Mary Haught, of Fort Myers, Fla.; great-nephew, Freddie L. Abe Jr., of Rawlings; many cousins and close family friends, the Fitzgerald Family, especially Rusty and Natalie, Paul and Dora, Kevin and Lisa; Mike, Andy, Kristin, Brooke and Michelle; and fire department “buddy,” Ted Nee. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, PA., Cresaptown, on Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home in Cresaptown on Friday at 6 p.m. Inurnment will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make contributions to the funeral home to defray funeral expenses. Cumberland Times-News, December 27, 2011.
