Dave was a 1960 graduate of Allegany High School and in 1962 from Catherman’s Business School. He then began his career at Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. After he received his draft notice, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Upon completion of his basic training in San Antonio, Texas, his two tours of duty were at McGuire AFB, Trenton, N.J., and Kindley AFB, Bermuda. He received an honorable discharge in 1967 and continued his education at the University of Maryland, receiving his B.S. degree in Accounting in 1971. He earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration in 1984 from Frostburg State University. Dave taught night classes at Allegany College in the Business Dept. and at the Federal Prison at Mexico Farms for several years. The following paragraph was copied from the WMHS’s monthly newsletter of 2007: Dave retired on June 1, 2007, after working at the health system for 36 years. He began his employment at Memorial Hospital in 1971 as an accountant. He assumed additional responsibilities as supervisor in the Accounts Payable Dept. in 1979. The position of controller was established in 1983 and Dave assumed that role at Memorial Hospital. His title was changed to senior financial analyst in the late 1990’s after the health system was formed. He was a great source of accounting knowledge and an important asset to the Finance Dept. He was a hard worker who was very easy to work with and always more than willing to lead big projects. Dave was known as a great documenter, willing to help when needed and the consummate team player. Co-workers said he was detailed-oriented, courteous, meticulous, pleasant, and conscientious. Dave was a member of Calvary Bible Church near Ellerslie, where he taught Sunday School and served as a Deacon. He had been on the Calvary Christian Academy School Board for 30 years and also served as Chairman. He had been a member of the board of Health Care 1st Credit Union and more recently on the ABLE Credit Union Board. Dave enjoyed golf, bowling, jogging, biking, swimming, collecting stamps, traveling with his wife and vacationing with his family and friends, Walt and Eileen McCoy. His family was a great source of pleasure to him and he dearly loved his nine grandchildren. Family and friends will be received at the Calvary Bible Church on Thursday, Feb. 16, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Calvary Bible Church on Friday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Greg Miller and Pastor Ken Korns officiating.
