- CRESAPTOWN — Dwight F. “Sonny” McKenzie, 71, of Cresaptown, died Thursday, Feb 16, 2006, at his residence. Born June 8, 1934, in Cresaptown, he was the son of the late Emory Melvin and Elizabeth M. (McBee) McKenzie. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Elizabeth Hershberger; and brother-in-law, Bruce Hershberger. Mr. McKenzie was a United States Army veteran and was a former member of the Cresaptown United Methodist Church. He graduated from Allegany High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree in education from F'rostburg State University. He was a former school teacher in the Washington D.C. area and was an avid train collector. Surviving are one brother, James Melvin McKenzie and wife Lorraine, Cresaptown; three nephews. David Hershberger and wife Teresa, Short (Jap, W.Va., Dennis McKenzie and wife Cathy, Cresaptown and Gary McKenzie and wife Brenda, Elkton; one niece, Linda Tichell and husband Robert, Rainesburg, Pa; cousins, Annabelle Butler and husband Charles L., Jean Toohey, Bob Starkey, Randall “Skeed” Starkey and Willa Jane Powell; and many other great-nieces; great-nephews; and cousins. At Mr. McKenzie’s request his body will be cremated A memorial service will be held at the Cresaptown United Methodist Church, Saturday, Feb. 25,2006, at 11:30 a.m. with the Rev.
