- Scottdale - James Dennis Porter, one of the earliest residents of this locality, died after a lingering illness following a paralytic stroke, on Saturday evening at 8.15, aged 77 years. He had spent the greater part of his lifetime on his farm near the Cunningham Bridge, but had spent the last, couple of years of his life on the Keyser farm near Owensdale, where he died. The deceased was a son of the late Moses and Amy Wade Porter, and leaves a brother and sister, George W. Porter, Sr., of near Scottdale, and Miss Lydia Porter of Scottdale. Mr. Porter was married twice, his first wife being Kate Williams of near Menden. The second wife was Elizabeth Owens, who survives him. The children living who were born to the first union are Thomas Walter Porter, M. (illegible) Porter, George W. Porter, Jr., of Porter and Stoner of Scottdale, Mrs. Mahlon F. Stoner and H. Clinton Porter of near Scottdale; Mrs. Allie B. Gault of Tyrone church, and G. Ellis Porter of Los Angeles, California; and Mrs. J. H. Owens of Toledo, Iowa. Those living of the second marriage are Gertrud, wife of William Hull, of Owensdale; Nettie, wife of Mr. Amney Gault, of Lecrone (?); Winifred, wife of William Johnston, of Scottdale; Jessie, wife of Fred Simpson, of Marion, Iowa; Olive, wife of Edward Terrance, Scottdale; Minnie, wife of Detmar Colton (?), on the old homeplace; Rebecca, wife of Benjamin Gault, of Tyrone church; and Alexander Porter, employed by the Union Supply Company, and living at home. The funeral services will be held in the Owensdale United Brethren church, of which the deceased was one of the builders, at 10:30 o'clock on Tuesday morning, with burial at the Scottdale cemetery.
