Durkin, 83, of Beechers Avenue, Eckhart, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at his residence. Born on May 5, 1916, in Eckhart, he was the son of the late Joseph and Julia (Muir) Durkin. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (McKenzie) Durkin, in 1994. Mr. Durkin was retired from the B & O Railroad as a machinist's helper. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, Frostburg, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Arie #1273. Surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth Enos and husband Phillip Jr.; one son, William Lee Durkin; three grandchildren, Danelle Jenkins and husband Joe, Deane Hockman and Robert Hockman, all of Eckhart; four step-grandchildren, William Fickes, Kaite Enos, Martha Enos, and Phillip Enos III, all of Frostburg; four great-grandchildren, William C. Durkin, Austin Lee Durkin, Noel Dawn Jenkins, and Joseph John Jenkins Jr., all of Eckhart; two sisters, Coletta Diehl, Barrelville, and Marie Cooper, of Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home, P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Paul Byrnes as celebrant. Cremation will follow the Mass. Inurnment will be in the St. Michael's Cemetery at a later date.
