- CORRIGANVILLE - Bruce Patrick Burkett, 46, of Corriganville passed away on Sunday, April 27, 2014. Born in Cumberland April 17, 1968 he was the son of Mary Louise Burkett and the late Robert "Bob" Burkett. He is also preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Edith and Jay Spataro, and Leola and Irvin Burkett. Bruce was employed at Mt. Savage Firebrick in Zihlman, and was a member of the Barrellville Outdoor Club and the Cumberland Democrat Club. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an occasional participant in hunting and fishing. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an occasional participant in hunting and fishing. He enjoyed being a part of teams playing skill pool, shuffleboard, and horseshoes for Zona's, a local tavern in Corriganville. His brilliant blue eyes and beautiful smile welcomed those he met. He had many friends and a large extended family who love him dearly. He was outgoing and friendly. He also had 4-legged friends. Bruce loved his dogs "Bobby Sue" and "Charger", and previous pets who had been faithful companions. Three of Bruce's enjoyments in life were Dodge trucks, Budweiser beer, and the Dallas Cowboys, in no particular order. Bruce had an eye for beautiful women but the apple of his eye was his dear, loving mother. "Mom makes the best pork chops, spaghetti, and meatballs...Mexican food," he would say. "I can almost taste them." Bruce enjoyed a good meal and his devoted mother was happy to oblige. In addition to his mother, Mary Louise, Bruce is survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins who love him very much. One cousin, Lori Kline was like a sister to him. He also leaves behind many close friends. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday, May 2, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. with friends being received one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be Pastor Richard Riley, also one of Bruce's cousins. Cousin Jordan Kline will sing of Bruce's farewell. Pallbearers will be Ed Mellott, Robert Moore, Jay Walters, Chuck Walters, Jimmy Kline, and Tim Burkett. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
