- AVILTON — Mary Henietta Garlitz, 91, of 8515 Avilton-Lonaconing Road, Lonaconing, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 1996 at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born March 10, 1904 at Avilton, she was a daughter of the late James F. and Elizabeth Emma (Gray) McKenzie. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. Garlitz was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert L. Garlitz, on Feb. 1, 1973. Mrs. Garlitz was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and was a homemaker. Surviving are a daughter, Merla Murray, Avilton; three grandchildren, Bill Murray, Elizabeth “Betty” Murray and Catherine Murray; and five great-grandchildren, Mike and Larry Winebrenner, Rhonda Archer and Misty and Christopher Murray. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Home, 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Friday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10 a.m. at old St. Ann's Catholic Church, Avilton, with the Rev. William Moody officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
