Ira MCKENZIE (Zacharias-2, John M.-1) was born about 1872 in Maryland. He died in 1943. Ira McKenzie, an old scout and trapper, has returned from Canada, where two years ago he filed one hundred homesteads from Oklahoma State, and will reside at Cresaptown, Md. Mr. McKenzie was an Allegany county school teacher some eighteen years ago. He taught his last year in Cresaptown in 1896. He married a daughter of Samuel S. McKenzie, also of this place. Mr. McKenzie, as a result of his travels, treasures many reminiscences of adventures in different parts of America. He has met every class of people in the United States and Canada. He is about 48 years of age, and is one of the best marksmen in the country and has a fund of good hunting stories, his trip in Canada being along the big McKenzie river in Winnepeg, the home of the big grizzly and other game. He has one brother, Mr. R. T. McKenzie, living in Cresaptown, who is a B. & O. Railroad telegraph operator, and several brothers in the West, who are successful ranchers. Ira V. McKenzie, 72, of Cresaptown, died today in Allegany Hospital, where he had been a patient since September 16. The body was taken to Stein’s Funeral Home. He was for many years caretaker at Fairgo and was in charge of the corn displays for the Cumberland Fair Association. In recent years he resided with a niece in Cresaptown. Ira V. McKenzie Rites – Services for Ira V. McKenzie, 72, Cresaptown, who died Tuesday, were conducted this morning at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church by Rev. Father Alvin, OFM, Cap. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were George, Harman J. and Ferman P. Barton, Gallitzen McKenzie, Chelsie A. Liller and Samuel Skelly.
