September 21, 2008, Cumberland Times-News ~ FINZEL — Leona Agnes “Gong” Kitis, 86, of Finzel, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Center. Born March 27, 1922, in Garrett County, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Minnie (McKenzie) Caton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ferdinand John Kitis, sister, Mary E. McKenzie, and brother, Clarence H. Caton. Leona was previously employed by the Celanese and the Frostburg Village Nursing Center. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and a life member of the Eastern Garrett County Fire and Rescue Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by two sons, John Kitis and wife Karen, of Pocahontas Road, and David Kitis and wife Terri, of Pocahontas Road; three brothers, Anthony Caton, of Junction City, Ohio, Lawrence Caton, of Lancaster, Ohio, and Stanley Caton and wife Virginia, of Oldtown; three sisters, Irene Ramhoff, of Finzel, Isabel Minnick, of Frostburg and May McKenzie and husband Francis, of Finzel; and sister-in-law, Helen Caton, of Frostburg; grandchildren, Mike and wife Emmy, Dwayne and wife Amanda, Krista and friend Clyde and Adam Kitis; great-grandchildren, Madison, Landan, Samantha, Terilyn, Garrett, Caleb, Haely, Kylee and Cody, and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, P.A. on Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, in St. Michael Catholic Church, Frostburg, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Hannon as celebrant. Interment will be in the Finzel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Kitis, Dwayne Kitis, Adam Kitis, Anthony Layman, Richard Ramhoff, and Jeff Johnson.
