Arthur Lewis MCKENZIE (Elias Marcellus-1) was born on 25 Aug 1889 in Avilton, Garrett Co., Maryland. He died on 6 May 1950 in Charlestown, Allegany Co., Maryland. Lonaconing - Arthur Lewis McKenzie, 60, died Saturday at his home in Charlestown. He had been ill since Wednesday. Mr. McKenzie had worked in the coal mines in this section until 1942 when he obtained employment at the Celanese plant. He had been furloughed since March 10. Born in Avilton, August 25, 1889, he was a son of the late Elias and Rebecca (Garlitz) McKenzie. He had lived most of his life in Lonaconing. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Anna Florence (Dawson) McKenzie; four sons, Lorraine Dawson, Roy McKenzie, Elmer McKenzie, Lonaconing; Marvin McKenzie, Detroit; two daughters, Mrs. George Nicol, Lonaconing, and Mrs. Norris George, Baltimore; 13 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Rella MacNamara, and one brother, Urban McKenzie, both of Lonaconing. He was a veteran of World War I, belonged to the United Mine Workers while working in the coal mines, and was a member of Local 1874 TWUA while at the Celanese. She died on 14 Dec 1970 in Frostburg, Allegany Co., Maryland. LONACONING - Mrs. Anna F. McKenzie, 83, Charles Town Road, died Monday in Miner's Hospital, Frostburg. Born in Frostburg, she was a daughter of the late Dora and Ida (Foutz) Dawson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur McKenzie. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. George Nichols and Mrs. Norris George, both of Baltimore; four sons, Roy McKenzie, Gilmore; Elmer McKenzie and Loraine Dawson, both of Lonaconing; Marvin McKenzie, Detroit; one sister, Mrs. Betty McHugh, Akron; 21 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. The body is at the Eichhorn Funeral Home where friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Requiem mass will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited in the funeral home today at 7:30 p.m. The Cumberland News, December 16, 1970.
