Stanton, Rachel Emily (McKenzie), born Jan. 20, 1829, and baptized Jan. 20, 1829 at Saint Patrick Ch., umberland,
Maryland, where her godmother was Mrs. Garlich. On June 5, 1845, her marriage to Andrew Stanton in Gallia Co. was witnessed by (Rev.) Joseph O'Mealy. Andrew was born in 1820, County Carlo, Ireland. His Irish parents are unknown. He also lived in Maryland, Pennsylvania and finally Ohio. We are also indebted to Steve Reeves,710 Ashley Drive, Chillicothe, OH45601, for much of the history of the Andrew Stanton family. The family lived in Wilkesville Township, Vinton Co., in the 1850-80 Census records. Andrew's Will was filed on Nov. 19,1861. He died June,1861, and is most likely buried at Saint Mary's Church Cem., Minerton, alongsi
Rachel and their children, Bridget and Ambrose. It is not known when Rachel Stanton died. She is listed "in the Wm. Shoemaker household at the June 25, 1900, Census of Clinton Twp., Franklin, Ohio." In 1860 the combined real estate and personal value of the Stanton farm is placed at $3,100, and climbs to almost $7,000. in 1870.
All eight of Andrew and Rachel's children are living in 1860. They are James, Mary Sullivan, John, Ambrose,
Bridget, Aloysius, Ignatius and Rachel Catherine Lawler. Rachel Stanton adopted a foster child, Nancy, in the 1870/
1880's.Nancy, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Buck, was born April 17, 1872, married William D. Shoemaker. She died May 24, 1942, with burial at Greenlawn Cem., Columbus.
