- Most all of the information for this McKenzie branch came from "THE HISTORY OF THE GABRIEL McKENZIE AND RACHEL BLUBAUGH FAMILY OF MARYLAND AND OHIO" by Father Homer Blubaugh, and from the Ancestry.com web site of Wayne William Ward. Wayne was one of the first researchers to debunk the junk research permeating the Internet that John MacKinzie (b. 1687) (the first known ancestor of the McKenzies of Early Maryland) did not descend from Collen MacKenzie and John MacKenzie as had been represented by researchers who came before him. NAMED AFTER A LOCAL PRIEST, FATHER James REDMOND OF CUMBERLand, MD. CATHERINE MCKENSEY AS GODMOTHER.
THE FAMILY MOVED TO Jackson TWP, PICKAWAY CO, IN 1876. HE MOVED FROM THERE TO Franklin CO WHERE THEY BOUGHT A FARM and SET UP A FAMILY MILK DELIVERY BUSINESS. THE HORSE-DRAWN MILKWAGON WAS PAINTED Black WITH THE LETTERING "J.R.MCKENZIE" PAINTED ON THE SIDE. MILK WAS CARRIED IN A LARGE CONTAINER TO THE WAGON and PEOPLE CAME TO THE WAGON WITH THEIR OWN CONTAINERS TO GET MILK. ABOUT 1893, THE MCKENZIE DAIRY BARN BURNED TO THE GROUND, THE FIRE SET BY THE CHILDREN WHO "WAS REFUSED A HORSE TO RIDE INTO TOWN". THIS WAS A TRAGIC SETBACK FOR THE FAMILY and J.R. WAS NEVER THE SAME AFTER THIS TERRIBLE FINANCIAL REVERSAL. THE MILK COWS, HORSES and MILKWAGON WERE SAVED. JIM and SARAH HAD 13 CHILDREN.
