Born on March 26, 1917, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Clarence V. and Sarah (Dunn) McKenzie. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clarkson Dunn and Garlitz McKenzie; and one sister, Wilda Dawson. Mr. McKenzie was the Director of Finance at the Queen City Dairy. He retired after 45 years of service in 1981. He was also an insurance agent for Nationwide Insurance Agency in the 1950's and 1960's. He was a 1935 graduate of Central High School, Lonaconing, and a graduate of Catherman's Business School. He as a 40-year member of Kingsley United Methodist Church, where he had served on the Administrative Board, was Chairman of the Audit Committee, and he had served as Current Expense Treasurer. He was a charter member of the former Lonaconing Rotary Club and a past member of the Cumberland Rotary Club. He was also a member of the Central High School Alumni Association and the Mended Hearts Association. He was a hunting, fishing and baseball enthusiast. He was an avid golfer, who was a member of Maplehurst Country Club. A patient and kind man, he will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Burndetta Flora "Burnie" McKenzie; one son, Robert C. McKenzie, Cumberland; one sister-in-law, Evelyn McKenzie Dawson, Lonaconing; two nieces, Sarah Dunn Spiker, Washington, Pa., and Mary Lou Dawson Arnold and husband Alan, Rockville; and two nephews, Donald J. McKenzie and wife Margaret, Lonaconing, and Lester L. Dawson and wife Larna, Vale Summit. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at Kingsley United Methodist Church, Sunday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard H. Jewell officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family requests contributions be made to the Western Maryland Health System Hospice Home Care or the New Covenant United Methodist Church, Frederick Street, Cumberland, formerly Kingsley United Methodist Church. Pallbearers will be Jeff Athey, Lester Dawson, Donald McKenzie, Alan Arnold, Jim Eckard and Thomas Arnold.
