    • FROSTBURG Charles William Atkinson, 64, of Powells Lane, Frostburg, died suddenly of heart complications on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at his residence. Born June 16, 1939, in Ocean, he was the son of Mary Bessie (Wilson) Atkinson, Vale Summit, and the late Charles O. Atkinson. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Jack Atkinson. Mr. Atkinson was retired from the maintenance department of Scarrett Bennett Center, Nashville, Tenn., and he was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Shadetree Street Rods, Nashville, Tenn., the American Legion of Donelson, Tenn., the Nashville V.F.W., and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 348, Frostburg, where he currently served as Governor. Bill spent his early years in Nashville doing what he loved best: playing country music and traveling. He was known as the Outlaw Fiddler and played for the Aliminators in the sixties and later for the Atkinson Brothers and the Country Gents. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are two sisters, Mary Lou Zufall and husband Jim, Cresaptown, and Rosina Wampler and husband John, Vale Summit; one brother, Richard Atkinson and wife Brenda, Frostburg; two ex-wives, his first wife Phyllis Jean Ross Dickel, and second wife Patricia (Hersick) Atkinson, Frostburg; his children, Terri Ann Burbridge, William David Atkinson and wife Billie Jo, all of Warren, Ohio, Billie Lynn Hawley and husband Joel, Frostburg, Scott House and wife Debra, and Stacy Ricker, all of Nashville; his grandchildren, Brittany Lynn Ricker, Sydney Hannah Ricker, Alexandra Hawley, Amanda House, Seth House, Susan Kincaid, Brittney Kincaid, Alex Atkinson, Nicholas Atkinson, Kyle Atkinson, Gillian Atkinson, Daniel Burbridge, and Chelsea Burbridge; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ed Irwin officiating.
