CUMBERLAND — Ruth Doreen (Britt) Propst, 83, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at the Lions Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care. Born June 30, 1928, in Frostburg, Mrs. Propst was the daughter of the late Joseph Joyce Britt and Carrie Catherine (Durst) Britt. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Ivan Odell Britt and Robert Junior Britt. A graduate of Beall High School, Ruth received her Masters of Education from Frostburg State College in 1965. She also received a Masters Degree with Advanced Professional Teaching Certificate from Wilson’s Teacher’s College, Washington, D.C.; George Washington University, Washington, D.C.; and the University of Maryland College Park with 30 credit hours of graduate credits beyond the Master’s Degree, with work completed at Frostburg State College. Ruth taught at the Bradbury Heights School in Prince George's County and the West Side School in Allegany County and retired in 1984. She was a life member of the Centre Street University Methodist Church; a member of the Eta Chapter, Beta State, Delta Kappa Gamma; the Allegany County Retired Teachers' Association; the Maryland Retired Teachers’ Association; and a life-member of the Maryland Congress of Parents and Teachers. She was also a member of the American Ex-Prisoners of War; the Department of Maryland and the Maryland Chapter West of American Ex-Prisoners of War; the American Automobile Association; and the Allegany County Library. Ruth is survived by her husband of 60 years, Elmer Ray Propst; her sister, Doris Jean (Britt) Flick, of Cumberland; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Ann Atkins officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Cumberland Times-News, November 15, 2011
